Game Animation |
Game Animation The graphics for this game consists of 2D cartoon art. All of the animation is done by hand, in a traditional animation style. Each frame of animation is hand-drawn with pencil and paper, and then scanned into the computer. Below, you see one of the final hand-drawn pencil sketches of our main character, Dirk Dashing. This is the raw sketch, before we perform any cleanup on it.
After each drawing is scanned into the computer, it is polished and painted using a paint program. It typically takes 1-2 hours to cleanup an animation frame like the one above so that we can use it in the game. Below is the final, cleaned up version of the drawing.
It is a painstakingly slow process, but the results are terrific! The animation is very smooth and fluid. It doesn't look at all like characters in most 3D computer games, which can often look blocky and move rather awkwardly.
